NJTA Membership Criteria

Criteria for Full Membership in the New Jersey Theatre Alliance

NJTA professional standards and orientations include:

  • Located in New Jersey
  • Not-for-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)3 or equivalent status
  • A minimum of one year production history operating under a standard Equity contract or on a Letter of Agreement with Equity referenced to a standard Equity contract (COST, CORST, LORT, TYA, SPT). Guest Artist and Special Appearance contracts are not considered standard
  • A minimum of two weeks rehearsal per self-produced production
  • A minimum of two self-produced productions per year for two consecutive years
  • A minimum of one full-time paid professional director or manager and a paid fulltime or part-time support staff
  • A minimum of one year participation in the NJTA Associate Membership Program
  • An updated board-adopted Long Range Plan
  • A commitment to the mission and spirit of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance

The New Jersey Theatre Alliance also has an Associate Membership Program for young and developing theatres. Once a theatre has been accepted as an associate they are eligible for mentoring services that will assist them in becoming an Equity theatre and fulfilling the requirements of membership.
